Gina pioneered the PoP (Power of Positivity) strings for Star Shelter in 2017. She spent most of her adult life chasing the traditional parameters of success – a fulfilling career, a happy family, material goods, and traveling.  However, she felt a sense of unrest for the past few years where she felt the need to serve. She found that volunteering with various beneficiaries filled in those gaps.

Gina took a break from her full-time job in 2016. She then started working with braids and beads and that gave her tremendous stress relief. She would learn a new bracelet making technique and practice it. She would then think of a positive message to attach to each bracelet and gift it to someone. This hobby, together with her desire to volunteer, soon turned into the PoPstrings project for shelter.

Gina regularly trains volunteers and women in the shelter to learn this bracelet making technique. Proceeds from the bracelet handmade by Gina will go toward crisis shelters for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence.

Gifted with a good design eye, Isabel is behind all the beautiful visuals we see associated with PoPstrings Project.

Apart from volunteering with the Marketing & Social Media team, she is currently working as a rendering artist at a playground consultancy firm. She also teaches art to children in her free time.

With a heart to serve vulnerable communities, Isabel once assisted in the construction of a school for children in the Philippines!

Karmun

Braiding & Beading Volunteer

Growing up in Australia, Karmun has been living in Singapore for over 2 years.

Wanderlust in her blood, it’s no surprise Karmun is working as a Market Development Executive in the travel industry. She also makes sure to visit her extended family in Malaysia, or visit her parents and younger brother back in Melbourne at every opportunity that comes her way.

Karmun is also a plant mom who enjoys exploring all of Singapore’s parks with her friends for leisure.

Tasha

Braiding & Beading Volunteer

As one of the original members of the PoPstrings Project, Tasha has been actively volunteering as a braider for over 3 years now.

Originating from the United Kingdom, Tasha first visited Singapore on a university exchange program and has recently settled down as a circuit breaker newly-wed after meeting her life partner here. She is also an adventurer with a love for the outdoors - and local food!

Count on her to recommend a satisfying bowl of Bak Chor Mee in Singapore.
