Gina pioneered the PoP (Power of Positivity) strings for Star Shelter in 2017. She spent most of her adult life chasing the traditional parameters of success – a fulfilling career, a happy family, material goods, and traveling.  However, she felt a sense of unrest for the past few years where she felt the need to serve. She found that volunteering with various beneficiaries filled in those gaps.

Gina took a break from her full-time job in 2016. She then started working with braids and beads and that gave her tremendous stress relief. She would learn a new bracelet making technique and practice it. She would then think of a positive message to attach to each bracelet and gift it to someone. This hobby, together with her desire to volunteer, soon turned into the PoPstrings project for shelter.

Gina regularly trains volunteers and women in the shelter to learn this bracelet making technique. Proceeds from the bracelet handmade by Gina will go toward crisis shelters for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence.
